Are you one of the following:

A newly qualified nurse looking to start your career in an exciting specialist environment?

A band 5 nurse with experience looking to specialise in paediatric oncology and develop your existing skills while gaining an abundance of new competencies?

An experienced cancer nurse looking to develop leadership and management opportunities to help support your specialised career trajectory?

Why not come and join our team of world class nurses and be part of a centre of excellence with an international commitment to developing your nursing career. We know it takes a very special person to care for children with cancer. We’re looking for paediatric nurses with dedication, compassion, humour and real strength of character that can make a difference in The Royal Marsden’s 31-bed Oak Centre for Children and Young People, one of the largest children’s cancer centres in Europe.

The Centre has been designed around the needs of our young patients and their families. In fact, many children and young people who have been treated at The Royal Marsden contributed to the layout, design and colour schemes for the interior of the Centre. Offering comprehensive and cutting-edge treatment, the department is based in the heart of our Sutton hospital which means that our young patients benefit from a wealth of expertise around them and the care they receive is tailored to their specific needs.

The Royal Marsden has one of the largest UK autologous and allogeneic transplant units, the largest paediatric inpatient drug development programme in the UK and is recognised as a world leader in this field. We work closely with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team and together our objective is to ensure that children, teenagers, and their families, receive the highest quality of care. The unit offers bespoke facilities, and excellent staff benefits including flexible working patterns, crèche facilities and fantastic support for continuing professional development through our School of Nursing.

There is a wealth of education on offer and career opportunities within the department, with a dedicated Paediatric Practice Education team and an abundance of expertise to help guide you through your competencies, skills and mapping a career pathway All new staff will attend a bespoke Foundation Oncology study days and Cytotoxic study days to equip them to be able to care for the patients and families with cancer. For newly qualified nurses we offer a 12 month Preceptorship programme as we recognise the transition from student to registered practitioner can be a challenging time.

Our Preceptorship programme will guide you through this process and ensure that you are supported, developing the confidence, knowledge and skills required to excel in your role. We also work a buddy system on the ward where senior staff nurses provide on-going support for more junior staff, which enables a tight nit team working ethic. We would love you to come and work with us to continue in our renowned level of care for children, and their families on McElwain Inpatient Ward, where we care for children aged 1 – up to the age of 16 yrs having chemotherapy, radiotherapy, autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants and intensive supportive care.

Informal visits are welcome.
