  • Are you a newly qualified nurse looking to kick start your career?
  • Have you an experienced nurse looking for a new career opportunity?
  • Are you an experienced cancer nurse but want a new challenge?

We know it takes a very special person to care for Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer. This is reflected in the specialists units across the country, which cares for patients aged 16yrs-24yrs, in dedicated TYA centres. We’re looking for Adult and Paediatric nurses, who understand the unique needs of this patient group, and the age appropriate care needed when caring for them.

The Teenage Cancer Trust Unit (TCTU) is a 9 bedded ward, set within the Oak Centre for Children and Young People, at the Royal Marsden Hospital (RMH) in Sutton. We are one of the largest Children’s Cancer Centres in Europe, offering comprehensive and cutting-edge treatment. The Royal Marsden has one of the largest UK bone marrow transplant units, the largest paediatric inpatient drug development programme in the UK and is recognised as a world leader in this field. On TCTU, we care for a range of haematology and oncology cancers, including bone marrow transplants.

The Oak Centre has been designed around the needs of our young patients and their families. We work closely with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team and together our objective is to ensure that children and young adults receive the highest quality of care.

Working within RMH will provide you with many opportunities, both academic and clinical. As a newly qualified nurse, the RMH preceptorship programme ensures you are supported and will give you guidance on how to develop the confidence, knowledge and skills required for you to excel in your role. All nurses will have access to our leading education specialists at the Royal Marsden School who offer a range of degree and master modules. We also have links with London South Bank University and Birmingham University, to ensure paediatric modules are also available. The school also provides a wide range of study days, such as pain, palliative care and heamatology care. You will benefit from our in-house practice education team who have a wealth of experience, and will support you gaining the skills and knowledge needed in oncology nursing through programmes such as ‘Nurses new to Cancer Care’, ‘Cytotoxic Administration’ and ‘Foundation Oncology Skills’.

We believe team work is key to delivering high quality care, which is why if you join us here at RMH, you will become a part of a supportive team that is passionate about providing the very best care to our patients.

In the 2017 staff survey, RMH was rated No.1 specialist trust for;

  • Staff feeling valued
  • Team working
  • Communication between senior managers and staff
  • Flexible working
  • Recommending family and friends for treatment
