Research Fellow, Breast Surgery Unit, Sutton

 The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has an international reputation for high quality patient care, education and research. Its partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research has created the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe.

The Royal Marsden Breast Unit provides one of the UK’s most comprehensive breast services as both a secondary and tertiary provider. The breast surgery service at the Sutton site is delivered by a mature oncoplastic team that works in close collaboration with Plastic Surgery colleagues.

Royal Marsden / ICR NIHR Biomedical Research Centre-funded MD (Res) Fellow: from April 2019 – April 2021

Pay scale: MN37

This post is aimed at offering a surgical registrar the opportunity to carry out research towards an MD (res). Time is dedicated for research while maintaining some clinical sessions in the breast diagnostic clinic. The post is funded by the Royal Marsden / ICR NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for 2 years. The research intended to develop and deliver a pilot study towards offering risk-prediction to women attending the one-stop clinic, followed by a menu of behavioural interventions intended to reduce their risk. The post holder will register for an MD (res) through the University of London.

The breast surgery service is delivered by 4 consultant surgeons, 1 deanery SpR (year 5/6), an oncoplastic breast surgery fellow and a clinical research fellow together with 2 experienced nurse practitioners, 3 breast clinical nurse specialists and 1 Trust Grade SHO. The research supervisors are Miss Jennifer Rusby & Miss Katherine Krupa.

 Applicants must be eligible for full GMC registration with MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. The post is full-time for a fixed-term period of 24 months. There are no on-call commitments but opportunities to contribute to the general surgery on call rota on an ad-hoc basis if desired.
