The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Physician with an interest in early cancer diagnosis. The Royal Marsden is a world leader in cancer research, treatment and education. Together with our academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), we are the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe and the only National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre specialising in cancer in the UK.

Early detection of cancer is a major research area within the RM/ICR BRC strategy. This is a new position that would suit an oncologist, gastroenterologist or respiratory physician with a significant interest in early cancer diagnosis working primarily at The Royal Marsden but in close collaboration with research partners in the AHSC and within the BRC. The post is funded by the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The post-holder will focus on early detection research in either lung cancer or gastrointestinal cancers (with a specific focus on colorectal cancers). He or she will also be involved in research in secondary prevention and early detection of recurrent cancers. In addition he or she will serve as a champion for early detection research and innovation more broadly within the RM/ICR BRC and would work in close collaboration with Imperial researchers interested in this field through the AHSC/BRCs and with other BRCs with cancer research themes. He/she will report and be accountable to the Director of Clinical Research and the Medical Director.

The post-holder will be expected to have a track-record in clinical and/or translational oncological research. Ideally he/she will have appropriate peer-reviewed publications and have attracted peer-reviewed grant funding/fellowship and/or industry funding.

Applicants should be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council and have membership of the Royal College of Physicians or hold equivalent qualifications. Applicants will have their CCT or be within 6 months of obtaining it.

Please ensure you upload a copy of your CV with your application form to be considered for this post.
