The breast clinical nurse specialist (CNS) team at The Royal Marsden hospital work with patients at all points of diagnostic and treatment pathway.  As integral and valued members of the breast multi-disciplinary team they liaise with all disciplines and provide the constant point of contact for patients throughout all treatments, surgical, medical and clinical oncology.

The service is busy and supports in excess of 600 patients per year.  Workload can be demanding but we are passionate about providing patient focussed care and ensuring that the CNS input is well directed and useful to the patient.  We ensure holistic assessment and aim to enable the CNS team to direct their own interventional work in order to improve patients’ resilience through treatment.

As part of the CNS team at The Royal Marsden, you would be well supported and able to gain experience of all treatment modalities as well as the weekly MDT meetings and educational sessions.  Attendance at conferences and study is supported by the educational department and time is released within the team.  We have a successful specialised metastatic service which you would help support once you have the skills and knowledge to do so.  In addition to the oncology treatments The Royal Marsden has a large cohort of high risk patients undergoing risk reducing surgery and medical treatments.  The breast CNS oversees this pathway and works with the psychological support service in running group sessions.  We have close links with the plastics team and clinical nurse specialist supporting women through autologous, immediate and delayed reconstruction.

The breast advanced nurse practitioner role is well developed at The Royal Marsden and provides a route for advancement if you are interested in extending clinical skills and responsibility.

Currently, due to internal promotion and relocation we have posts available on both the Chelsea and Sutton sites.  Two are within the NHS (1 at Sutton and 1 at Chelsea) and one is to work within the private sector (Chelsea).  We are keen to appoint the best candidates to the most appropriate roles.  Private care runs alongside NHS provision at the Royal Marsden as a mixed model service.  This increases support for both patients and staff and ensures good team working.  The private and NHS CNS team at Chelsea work very closely together within the same workspace which is supportive, friendly and social.

We would be delighted to receive applications from interested candidates who have experience of breast cancer treatments of any modality.  We can provide excellent in-house training and support where that is required.  Clinical supervision is supported and actively encouraged within The Royal Marsden.
