The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has an international reputation for high quality patient care, education and research and its partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research has created the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe.

The Trust wishes to appoint Clinical Fellows in Urological Surgery (equivalent to an SPR) working at the Fulham Road (Chelsea) site for March 2019.

The Urology Unit is the only unit in the country providing access to all the leading edge technologies including, Robotics, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, Prostate Brachytherapy and Intensity–Modulated Radiation Therapy. We are also the largest centre for nodal dissection in testicular cancer and full reconstructive techniques following major pelvic surgery in the UK and one of two National Centres of Excellence for prostate cancer research. A new Xi DaVinci robot has recently been added provided dual surgeon operating allowing mentored training for robotic procedures.

Over a 12 month period the Marsden performs 150 robotic prostatectomies, in excess of 50 cystectomies, 40-50 RPLNDs and over 100 renal surgery cases. Recent service expansions have occurred in prostate cancer diagnostics which combined with a recently expanded Consultant team will be associated with a further 150 robotic prostatectomies/year. The post holder will have the opportunity to participate and be trained in all major urological oncological procedures and procedures appropriate to their level of training.

This post will form part of the 1:7 pelvic surgery rota; the rota is non resident and provides cover for both sites of the Trust and The Royal Brompton Hospital. On-call arrangements will be within the regulation of the European Union directive.

Applicants must be eligible for full registration with the GMC and hold FRCS or equivalent.

This post will be for a fixed term 6 month contract with the view to extend to 9 months.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
